PHOTO GALLERY: LOPHOPHORA
Valery Kalishev
Dear readers! This issue of the Photo gallery where we usually display abnormal cacti forms is dedicated to genus Lophophora. The photos on the left show normal plants, those right below the text show crested forms and still lower you can see the variegated forms of Lophophora.
On the right there is also a postage stamp issued in Russia in 1994 picturing Lophophora williamsii.
We realize that legislation of many countries (including Russia) treats the cacti from this genus as drug-containing plants. That's why we decided it would be safer not to credit the authors of the photos and not to display the URLs of the sites and home pages these photos were downloaded from.
To those interested in the cacti from genus Lophophora we recommend to read a very interesting book by Edward Anderson "Peyote, The Divine Cactus", published by The University of Arizona Press, ISBN 0-8165-0680-9.
The previous issues of the Photo gallery were dedicated to the abnormal forms of cacti from genera Astrophytum (#18), Gymnocalycium (#22, 23), Ariocarpus (#25), Rebutia (#26), Cereus (#27) and some other genera (#28).
Look through the photos and enjoy!
