Photo-report covers the spring 2002 exhibition of the Russian Organization for Investigations in Cacti and Other Xerophyte Plants (ROIKS)
In this column we continue to post photographs from cactus-club exhibitions. A photo-report from exhibitions in Chelyabinsk and Petrozavodsk is published in Cultivar issue #2 (12) in column Collections.
This photo-report covers the spring 2002 exhibition of the Russian Organization for Investigations in Cacti and Other Xerophyte Plants (ROIKS), devoted to cristate forms of cacti and other succulents. The Society publishes the Cacti and Other Succulents magazine (we wrote about it in issue # 1/11) and hosts exhibitions of succulents every spring and fall in the State Darwin Museum (Moscow). The last exhibition was held on September 17-29, 2002.
This issue is dedicated to the memory of our friend, chief editor of the Cacti and Other Succulents magazine, Nikolay Grigorievich Balashov, Ph. D. He passed away on August 2, 2002, at the age of 77. On the first two photographs you can see Nikolay conducting an exhibition tour. It was his last exhibition. Memory about this outstanding person will stay in our hearts forever.
The first page shows the exhibition organizers narrating the visitors through the plants. There is also a photo of the showcase of cristate and monstrose succulents, the main topic of the exhibition. On the second page you can see some more panoramic photographs of the exposition. The third page shows plant showcases. The fourth page shows individual exhibits. There is a total of 26 photographs.
