The journal "Succulents" was founded in 1997 by an IOS member Innokentiy E. Sinev and Doctor of Biology A. P. Khokhryakov (deceased in 1998).

The mission of the journal is to assemble the findings of chiefly Russia biologists studying succulent plants. Original articles on various aspects of biology, ecology, evolution, taxonomy and geography of succulents are published in Russian and English.

For the 4th year running the journal publishes the works on a new taxonomy of Cactaceae by Alexander B. Doweld.

The A4 format journal contains 46 pages with white and black pictures and is issued twice a year (in June and December).
